What is the difference between an exclusive channel and an OTA?

An OTA is an open marketplace where anyone can list. An exclusive channel is a specific partner – a ferry line, a ski operator, a regional destination company – that sells accommodation to its own customers as part of their trip. The difference commercially is context: a Color Line passenger booking a hotel is already travelling to your region and has a reason to be there, which is different demand from an open OTA search.

Which exclusive channel partners does VISIT connect to?

Named partners include SkiStar, Color Line, Fjord Line and Stena Line through Sembo – major Nordic ski and ferry operators whose customers are already travelling to a destination and need somewhere to stay. For a property near a ferry route or a ski area this is demand an OTA listing does not reach, because the booking starts from the journey rather than from a hotel search.

How are payments and cancellations handled on exclusive channels?

Payment and cancellation terms are set by the channel partner as part of your direct agreement with them, not by VISIT – inventory and rates sync from your system, but the commercial terms are between you and the partner. That is worth understanding before you connect: a ferry operator's cancellation policy may be more generous than your own, and the difference sits with you rather than with them.

Will exclusive channels compete with our direct bookings?

Less than an OTA does, because the demand arrives from a different starting point – someone booking a ferry crossing or a ski trip is not searching for your hotel by name, so the booking is more likely to be incremental than displaced. Rates and availability stay under your control from the same calendar as every other channel, so you decide what to release and at what price rather than opening full inventory by default.

Do exclusive channels use the same calendar as our OTA channels?

Yes. Exclusive channels are managed from the same inventory as your OTAs and your own booking engine, so a room sold through a ferry partner becomes unavailable everywhere else within seconds. This matters more with closed channels than with OTAs, because partner bookings often arrive in batches for a sailing or a ski week, and a calendar that updates on a delay will oversell exactly when volume is highest.
