What does API-first mean in practice?

It means the platform's own features are built on the same public APIs available to you, rather than on private internal interfaces with a limited API layer added afterwards. The practical consequence is that anything VISIT's own products can do is reachable programmatically – so an integration is not restricted to whatever a vendor decided to expose. That is the difference between an API-first platform and a platform with an API.

Which VISIT API should I use?

It depends what you are building. Use the Reservation API to build a custom booking engine, the Distribution API to push inventory to OTAs, the Integration Partner API to connect a property management system to Hospitality Commerce, the VISIT Payments API to unify payments, and the Galaxy API to search and book travel products across the ecosystem. Full documentation and a test environment are available for each.

Do we need a developer to integrate with VISIT?

For a custom integration, yes – the APIs need development work, done by your own team or by a certified partner. For most needs you do not, because ready-made connections already exist in the Partner Marketplace and cover the systems most properties run. Check the Marketplace first: buying a certified integration is almost always cheaper than building and then maintaining one.

How do we get API access, and is there a sandbox?

API access requires an agreement and an API key, and there is a test environment alongside the technical documentation so an integration can be built and validated before it touches live data. Ask about rate limits and API versioning policy at the same time – both determine whether an integration keeps working a year later, and neither is usually mentioned until something breaks.
